Payment Plans
Flexible payment plans allow you to pay for college over time.
A payment plan through Nelnet Campus Commerce allows you to spread your education expenses over smaller monthly installments for a small enrollment fee. There is no interest and no pre-qualification or credit check for this service.
Most students in the following divisions are eligible to enroll.
- Krieger School of Arts and Sciences
- Carey Business School (Payment Schedule B)
- Peabody Institute
- School of Advanced International Studies
- School of Education
- School of Medicine
- School of Nursing
- Whiting School of Engineering
Certain programs may be excluded. If you’re eligible, the link will be accessible in SIS Self-Service.
To enroll in a payment plan:
Log in to SIS Self-Service and click on Billing / Summary / Enroll in Nelnet Payment Plan.
Cost to Participate
- $55 nonrefundable enrollment fee per semester
- Up to $30 nonrefundable returned payment fee if a payment is returned
Payment Methods
- Automatic bank payment (ACH)
- Automatic credit card/debit card
Payments must be set up through a U.S. bank account and are processed automatically on the 15th of each month.
Plan Enrollment Dates
A new payment plan must be set up for each semester.

Please note:
- Charges for books are excluded from the payment plan.
- Any new charges not covered by your original Nelnet contract (library fines, lab breakage, etc.) should be paid directly to JHU upon receiving an account statement. This is separate from your monthly payment plan installments.
- Funding for your J-Card (debit card) cannot be budgeted through the Nelnet Payment Plan.
- Refunds for any over payments to the plan will be processed after the payment plan contract has been fulfilled.
- Students/parents can adjust your monthly payment plan if excess funds are on your student account to avoid waiting for a refund.
